Goal - to be a favoured employer of staff and provide an outstanding work environment
Workplace behaviours
In response to staff concerns regarding perceived unacceptable behaviours in the workplace we consulted through focus groups, PSA and other forums on a review of current policy and process and the introduction of agreed acceptable workplace behaviours. The resulting agreement titled The Way We Work, comprising Being Fair, Maintaining Professionalism, Respecting Each Other and Sharing Responsibility, has now been incorporated into policy and Best Practice. The staff handbook and posters are on display in work areas to remind staff of our shared commitment. All managers attended sessions to discuss and ensure understanding of their role in the implementation. Recent Staff Survey results reflected appreciation for this initiative.
Health and safety
Prevention of injury from workplace hazards and focus on injury management and rehabilitation are top priorities for our Health and Safety Committees, with the support of Health and Safety professionals based on each site. Over the past 12 months the Committees have also highlighted aspects of personal health management to staff by offering Wellness Weeks on each site. In each case specialists in physical, mental and social health have been engaged to offer informative talks and activities. This is in addition to the annual 10,000 steps challenge and ongoing support to staff through flu vaccinations and site-based seminars, displays, sports, massage and recreation.
