An agreement signed recently by AgResearch and Pūhoro has enhanced an existing relationship built on a shared interest in more Māori youth participating in STEMM subjects and carrying through to careers as scientists or other roles needed by Aotearoa.
“It’s been great for us over the last few years to offer science internships to some of those rangatahi from Pūhoro’s STEMM Academy, and to see them thrive in that environment,” says AgResearch’s Director of Māori Research and Partnerships, Ariana Estoras.
“As a research institute working with farmers, businesses and communities on tackling some tough issues they are facing, we really need those fresh young minds coming through and bringing new ideas and energy, especially from a Te Ao Māori perspective.”
