I use my research as a tool to engage with communities providing pathways through which freshwater quality and biodiversity can be improved.

Using genomics, I work across scales from farmers, local hapū groups to regional councils, providing an understanding on the impact different land uses have on freshwater microbial populations and public health risk focussing on bacterial pathogens.

Given the choice, it’s gumboots and cups of tea with community groups over lab coats and safety specs.
