I grew up on a dairy farm in Michigan in the US and trained in animal sciences with an emphasis on reproductive physiology. My research aims to identify factors that influence reproductive efficiency of sheep and cattle with a focus on the development, growth, maturation and health of the ovarian follicle and embryo. I am the chair of the AgResearch Animal Ethics Committee. I am Co-Editor-in-Chief for Reproduction, Fertility and Development and a fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand.
